GDPR is one of the most significant pieces of legislation of recent times to affect organisations whose core activities involve the processing of data. With a huge number of organisations now processing customer data on a daily basis, GDPR will set the tone for the cybersecurity in 2017. Ward Solutions provides a range of services to help customers avoid the strain and become GDPR compliant.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is set to come into force on 25th May 2018. The replacement for the old Data Protection Directive, GDPR is one of the most significant pieces of legislation of recent times to affect organisations whose core activities involve the processing of data. Irish organisations now have a limited amount of time to ensure compliance.

Many organisations have underestimated the workload required to become compliant, and by the time they realise the scale of the challenge they will be forced to seek assistance from a limited pool of knowledgeable external resources. For this reason, achieving compliance in time will end up costing a lot more than they bargained for.

The cost of failing to demonstrate compliance can be far greater however. Organisations that are found to be non-compliant can be liable to fines of up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20M, depending on which is greater. Perhaps even more significant is the fact that organisations that fail to demonstrate compliance will be required to provide compensation to persons who have suffered material or non-material damage as a result of an infringement of the regulation.

To help our clients ensure compliance with GDPR Ward Solutions offers the following services:

Assess readiness

The first step to compliance is to hold a workshop which will determine compliance readiness of your organisation. Experienced members of Ward’s team can visit your premises to assess your position on the compliancy ladder and outline the necessary steps that your organisation has yet to take.

Data inventory

This part of the process looks at the different types of data held by your organisation and maps the various data flows to ensure security of your supply chain. Ward’s team will also look at your data processing procedures and determine if they fall within the parameters of GDPR.

Gap Analysis

In-depth gap analysis and remediation planning will identify the steps your organisation needs to take to become compliant. Ward will also develop a tailored plan to help your organisation to complete this process.

Data Protection programme

Ward Solutions can work closely with your organisation to implement a programme enabling you to achieve and maintain GDPR compliance.

Data Protection Officer

All public authorities and any organisation whose core activities involve the processing of personal data must appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO). Ward’s innovative DPO as a Service offering gives your organisation access to an information security specialist who will provide expert knowledge of GDPR and data privacy best practice, and oversee the implementation of GDPR throughout the organisation.
